Get Fairy Tail Cosplay Idea-Interview with cosplayer Flaming-Goddess

Interview with cosplayer Flaming-Goddess -

Rachel a.k.a Flaming-Goddess is a cosplayer from Ohio, USA. She has cosplayed characters such as Mami Tomoe from Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Boa Hancock from One Piece and Sakura Haruno from Naruto. Rachel is famously known for her cosplay of Nami from One Piece which is jaw-dropping. We at ProCosplay loved her incredibly cute cosplay of Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail. Let's get to know more about her!

Biography :-

Name - Rachel
Place - Columbus, OH
DOB - April 27
Fav Anime - One Piece, Madoka Magica, Fairy Tail, Chuunibyo demo Koi ga Shitai!, Gurren Lagann, and Shinsekai Yori.

1. How about you introduce yourself to the readers first?

Flaming Goddess :-
Hey there! My name is Rachel (alias Flaming-Goddess), and I'm a cosplayer from the US. I'm studying to be an opera singer, but in my free-time I enjoy making costumes, watching anime, and hanging out with friends.

2. What got you into cosplaying and for how long have you been cosplaying?

Flaming Goddess :-
I've been cosplaying for 5 years. I started watching Naruto when I was in middle school, but it wasn't until 2008 that I heard about an anime convention in Columbus callled Ohayocon. My mom and I put together a Timeskip Sakura Haruno cosplay the night before the con, and after that I was hooked.

Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail

3. Why did you choose to cosplay Lucy Heartfilia?

Flaming Goddess :-
A friend of mine had been bugging me to read Fairy Tail for a while, so I finally broke down and read it. I immediately connected with Lucy (and her ridiculous faces), and her character design was adorable to boot. I also fell in love with the series, so I knew I had to cosplay her. I'm planing on doing a couple of other versions of her in the future as well.

4. Could you give the readers some tips on cosplaying Lucy Heartfilia?

Flaming Goddess :-
Have fun with it! Lucy is a great character to cosplay because she has so many emotions and poses to portray. I really suggest styling your own wig, because you often see the same couple wigs with Lucy cosplayers, and in my opinion they aren't quite right.

Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail

5. Did you face any difficulties in cosplaying Lucy Heartfilia?

Flaming Goddess :-
Styling the wig and finding a good pattern for her shirt was definitely a little difficult. Because she has a side ponytail, I had a tough time finding a wig that would be thick enough to style and not show wefts so I would have to use a clip-in. Her shirt also is a little unique with its collar and form-fitting nature, but eventually I ended up using stretchy cotton and it worked perfectly.

6. What according to you are the pros and cons of cosplaying?

Flaming Goddess :-
Cosplaying definitely helped me meet a bunch of new, awesome people and travel out of Ohio to different conventions, as well as gain new skills like sewing and prop-work that I definitely would not have had if I hadn't gotten the hobby. But, unfortunately there is a lot of drama that comes with the hobby, as well as judgment from people who don't know about cosplaying. But, I try not to let any of that affect me. Cosplaying is also a bit of a money suck, with all the wigs, fabric, shoes, etc. that you buy to make your costume perfect.

Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail

7. Where do you often go for your photoshoots? How do you choose the background for a photoshoot?

Flaming Goddess :-
I usually do photoshoots on location at conventions with various photographers, but sometimes I work with a photographer here in Columbus at his studio. When I go to cons, I always end up scouting various locations that I think would look cool in pictures, so that usually helps me decided where to take pictures.

8. How do you view yourself as a cosplayer?

Flaming Goddess :-
I'm definitely still a beginner in a lot of ways, since I really only started making new costumes 2 years ago, but I've grown in a lot of ways when it comes to sewing things of various difficulties and prop work. I'm hoping to continue getting better and make new costumes and props!

Lucy Heartfilia from Fairy Tail

9. Could you give some advice to the beginners out there?

Flaming Goddess :-
Don't be afraid to ask for help! My mom taught me how to sew and knew how to make so many things, and my dad knows more about wood working and building things than I ever will. They both have helped me so much with making my cosplays. Also, the Internet is your friend! There's a pretty good chance that the thing you're trying to make has a tutorial about it somewhere, and if there isn't, ask another cosplayer that you like how they did it. Cosplaying is all about fun, so choose something you'll enjoy making!

Interview with cosplayer Yosuke Sora -

Sword Art Online Cosplay

Meet Yosuke Sora, a cosplayer from Singapore. Yosuke has cosplayed characters such as Gintoki from Gintama, Len Kagamine from Vocaloid and Midorima Shintaro from Kuroko no Basuke. He has also crossplayed Hatsune Miku from Vocaloid. Yosuke's cosplay of Kirito from Sword Art Online is simply amazing. Read on to find out more about him!

Biography :-

Name - Yosuke Sora
Place - Singapore
Favourite Anime - Gintama

1) Could you introduce yourself to the readers?

Yosuke Sora :-
Hello everyone! I am a cosplayer from Singapore whom started cosplaying at Anime Festival Asia Singapore. 2011. As for myself, I am really glad to have discovered this activity. Cosplaying has not only widened my social-circle, it had also given me a chance to dress up as my favorite characters from various anime/ game series. I am currently persuading my interest towards the arts as a student in a local art institute. I have never expected that I would become a cosplayer and hop into the shoes of so many characters!

2) When did you realize your love for cosplaying and for how long have you been cosplaying?

Yosuke Sora :-
After being introduced to so many anime and manga, I have actually discovered this activity known as osplaying through a friend抯 friend. I started stalking her and eventually adding her on facebook, hoping that she would share her experiences with me. Besides being a creepy stalker (LOL), I did research on my own free time, and also visited events around Singapore before I decided to attempt a cosplay of my favourite character from D.Gray-Man, Kanda Yuu. The first experience in cosplaying was fun yet pressuring since I was new to this community and I didn't even know how to apply cosmetics nor even style/ wear a wig!
Just like as mentioned above, I have been an active cosplayer for an estimation of 1+ years? (November 2011 till today~)

Sword Art Online Cosplay

3) Why did you choose to cosplay Kirito?

Yosuke Sora :-
I have always had an interest towards action anime, when the first episode Sword Art Online anime was available, I went to watch it without hesitation and eventually found a strong liking for the series! Kirito was my favourite character from SAO and I decided to cosplay it at Anime Festival Asia 2012.

4) Could you give the readers some tips on cosplaying Kirito?

Yosuke Sora :-
Theres nothing much to share, but character feel and accuracy is important in my opinion. Kirito is portrayed to be an rdinary-boy? whom got trapped in a game and his personally isn't too quiet nor too insane, therefore keeping in character would be a pretty good start for all who are interested in cosplaing Kirito. Besides the character feel, I think costume accuracy is also important. I bought my costume online and selected the more accurate one as I did not have confidence to tailor one myself, Kirito抯 swords Elucidator and Dark Repulsor were self made since I couldn't find any that I liked for sale haha. Still trying to improve my Kirito Cosplay though.

5) Which character do you love cosplaying the most?

Yosuke Sora :-
After cosplaying many characters that fall under different anime genres, each having different personality, I think my most enjoyable experience was to cosplay Midorima Shintaro from Kuroko no Basuke. I prefer to cosplay characters that aren't too child as I feel that wont be able to portray them well.

6) Do you have any favourite cosplayers that you admire and get inspired by?

Yosuke Sora :-
I have a few cosplayers that I look up to such as Kuryu and Reika from Japan. Reika has done many complicated costumes and props, I am always looking forward to more updates and awesome photos of her cosplay from her, in a sense it has also inspired me to improve my sewing skills and prop making skills XD.

7) How does cosplaying make you feel?

Yosuke Sora :-
I am still me afterall, but just portraying a character. It doesn't really make me feel special among everyone but instead, I feel that by cosplaying, I am just doing what I enjoy to do. Cosplaying is both money and time consuming after all, it does make me feel broke day by day LOL. (jobless student $.$)

8) Do you see yourself cosplaying in 10 years?

Yosuke Sora :-
If possible, I would willingly continue to cosplay even after 10 years!

Sword Art Online Cosplay

9) Any piece of advice for the cosplay virgins out there?

Yosuke Sora :-
Cosplaying has never been about getting famous but doing what you really enjoy to. Do lots of research and planning before you cosplay any specific characters. Accept both praises and criticisms, learn from other cosplayers and also share with one another. Support from one another is always important to boost self confidence~ With that, enjoy the process and make new friends!

Inu x Boku SS Cosplay

Daniele a.k.a. Hakudoushi is a cosplayer and web designer from Italy. He has cosplayed characters such as Undertaker from Kuroshitsuji, Amaimon from Ao No Exorcist and Dark Magician from Yu-Gi-Oh. We at ProCosplay loved his spectacular cosplay of Miketsukami Soushi from Inu x Boku SS. Let's get to know more about him!

Biography :-

Name - Daniele
Place - Italy
DOB - 7th June 1989
Fav Anime - Really, really hard for me to say.... Evangelion if I should pick just one D:!

1. Could you introduce yourself to the readers?

Hakudoushi :-
Hi everyone, I'm Daniel alias "Hakudoushi" (yeah I wish I was him, it's my favorite character from my childhood, I love characters with white hair... They are fascinating and enigmatic).
I love videogames, anime and art.
Everything I love in my life started because it was related to an anime or a videogame, and I mean everything! Also my job: I started making websites about Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh and now... I'm a web designer :P

2. What inspired you to start cosplaying and for how long have you been cosplaying?

Hakudoushi :-
I've always loved cosplaying but I never took many picture of myself.
What changed everything was Kuroshitsuji. I never loved an anime characterization and clothing so much, I HAD to cosplay Ciel!
And this started everything, it's been fun. Not exactly cheap, but really funny.

Inu x Boku SS Soushi Miketsukami Cosplay

3. Why did you choose to cosplay Miketsukami Soushi?

Hakudoushi :-
The first time I saw Miketsukami I was like "WHOA NOSEBLEED ALL OVER"... No, really, that's what I said. I like his mystery aura and I find the design of this character extremely original.
If you want me to be a little deeper, I would say that everyone wants to wear a mask acting like a character we are cosplaying, mostly because we want to be like that character in some way.
I love his blind devotion for Ririchiyo. One day, I would like to have a "blindly devotion" for someone.

4. Could you give the readers some tips on cosplaying Miketsukami Soushi?

Hakudoushi :-
Well, first you have to know how to make the traditional japanese outfit, of course. That's the easiest part, not really hard to craft!
Remember to chose a good fabric because white fabric can look often like "hospital-like" clothes, and we don't want this in Miketsukami, do we!
The hardest part is making the tails. They have to stand up and make you look handsome just like the character. Use an iron thread inside them, and use a solid one! (not too much, you're going to need to adjust them once you're in the convention).
Also, learn how to wield a Katana properly

Inu x Boku SS Soushi Miketsukami Cosplay

5. What do you think about the cosplay scene in your country, Italy?

Hakudoushi :-
I don't like Italy in many MANY way, but for some reason I love the cosplay scene. Of course there are people you don't want to deal with, but so is everywhere.
The conventions are good and well organized! Just consider "Lucca Comics", I love it. I saw "Madoka Magica" movie and I met the author of "Mirai Nikki", Sakae Esuno, it was really exciting.
If you want to come in Italy, come in october-november so you wont miss it!

6. What has been your most exciting/memorable cosplay experience to date?

Hakudoushi :-
Probably Undertaker from Kuroshitsuji. It's been hard with those heels. REALLY hard, but I don't regret a single moment cosplaying it. I loved making his scythe and acting creepy like him.

Inu x Boku SS Soushi Miketsukami Cosplay

7. What is the most difficult cosplay challenge you've faced so far? How did you pull it off?

Hakudoushi :-
Hmmm... Probably it was the "make-up" part. I didn't like myself with make-up on, especially eyeliner on my eyes. I skipped a convention once because I didn't like myself at all and stayed at home D:
I solved it avoiding characters that have the eyeliner in a particular way. The hardest part of cosplaying is that you wont probably fit all of the characters you like. Understanding this you will only make good cosplays, hard life lesson ARGH.

8. In what way has cosplay changed your life?

Hakudoushi :-
I didn't have so many friends, I wasn't really so happy as I am now and I had nothing else to express myself.
The last one is the most important. I think that if you find something you can express yourself into, you find also happiness.

Inu x Boku SS Soushi Miketsukami Cosplay

9. Any piece of advice for the cosplay virgins out there?

Hakudoushi :-
Just be yourself. If you have a character that you love and you think it wouldn't fit you, reinvent it so you will look good.
Choose a beautiful wig that fits you, don't have a one-track mind with the character's details. NO ONE can be exactly as an anime/videogame character, cosplaying it isn't about being maniacs for details, and it's the most common error people do!
Just think "how would the character be if it was real?". Reality is different, sadly.
And the most important thing is HAVING FUN, if you have fun making a cosplay and acting like the character you will definitely make a perfect cosplay :)

2. When did you realise your love for cosplaying and for how long have you been cosplaying?

Meepygal :-
I am half Japanese and was born in Japan so I grew up with Japanese pop culture in my life. Its one of the main reasons why I was introduced and influenced to cosplay/conventions when I was in middle school. I got invited to go to Sakura con 2008 so that was my first convention and my start of this amazing hobby.

Future Diary Yuno Gasai Cosplay Costumes

3. Why did you choose to cosplay Yuno Gasai?

Meepygal :-
I really enjoyed the Mirai Nikki manga and decided to cosplay her when the anime was coming out.

4. Could you give the readers some tips on cosplaying Yuno Gasai?

Meepygal :-
Don't be afraid to get creative when you cosplay her. You can do a lot of action and fighting poses. I literally had used at least five different weapons props in multiple photoshoots & I loved portraying the crazy yandere side of her. Also make sure you get pink contacts that stand out, since her eyes are incredibly vibrant and expressive. I see a lot of Yuno cosplayers buying pink lenses that look too grey and I think it ruins the overall look and feel of the character.

Future Diary Yuno Gasai Cosplay Costumes

5. How do you decide what character to cosplay?

Meepygal :-
If I like it, can afford it and have time to construct it.

6. What is your dream cosplay?

Ive completed quite a lot of my dream cosplays in this past year but currently my top two are Rei Ayanami's plugsuit in Evangelion ANIMA and some version of the Iron Man suit.

7. How do you view yourself as a cosplayer?

Meepygal :-
I mostly do it for fun and friends. I love going to conventions and showing off my work too. Im usually a perfectionist when It comes to certain costumes and will work to make things look nice but my attitude is mostly laid back and fun.

8. Do you have any embarrassing cosplay moment that you'd like to share with us?

Meepygal :-
My most recent one was at Kumoricon this year. I was backstage during the cosplay contest and was giving out donuts to everyone in the room when I tripped over someones cosplay prop, went flying with all of the donuts and took a chair to the face like a champion.

Future Diary Yuno Gasai Cosplay Costumes

9. Could you give some advice to the beginners out there?

Meepygal :-
Remember this is a hobby HAVE FUN. If you want to have amazing costumes its going to take a while for you to build the skills and knowledge that a lot of us veterans have. Practice and research is key; don't be afraid to make new things no matter how bad they look. Don't be afraid to make friends with other cosplayers, and ask for questions or help! When I first started sewing on my own my costumes were definitely not quality work.

Get Best Uta no Prince Sama Cosplay Idea-Interview with cosplayer Hayato

Interview with cosplayer Hayato -

Hayato a.k.a. Lucky is a cosplayer from Germany. She has cosplayed characters such as Heiwajima Shizuo from Durarara, Suzaku Kururugi from Code Geass and Dino Cavallone from Katekyou Hitman Reborn. We at ProCosplay loved her marvellous cosplay of Otoya Ittoki from Uta no Prince Sama. Let's get to know more about her!

Biography :-

Name: Lucky
Place: Cologne - Germany
DOB: 31/12/84
Fav anime: Prince of Tennis, Code Geass and 07-Ghost

1. Could you introduce yourself to the readers?

Hayato :-
Hello guys! :D
I'm Lucky (you can also call me Hayato), a german cosplayer for more than 7 years already. I love this hobby so much I hope it will last for many, many years! I work full-time as an accounting clerk and training supervisor in whole Germany. In my free time I work on my cosplays and love playing Videogames like Sims 3 and the MMORPG Ragnarok Online.
Every Cosplay I wear is self-made and I learned sewing on my own just because I want to cosplay! >D

2. What got you into cosplaying and for how long have you been cosplaying?

Hayato :-
I guess I was all the time being a cosplayer. Even when I didn't knew what Cosplay was I wanted to be my favorite Comic- and Anime-Characters an carnival!. My first encounter with "Cosplay" as Cosplay was at the age of ~20 at a german convention (Connichi) and it dug me so deep in since this moment back then.

3. Why did you choose to cosplay Otoya Ittoki?

Hayato :-
When I saw the Anime, Otoya was such a cheerful character and though he had something "special" in his appearance and character which fascinated me somehow and which I still can't figure out exactly. Even if this kind of character isn't normally the one I would choose I decided it should be HIM. Maybe it was this challenge to display him the way he appeared to me.

4. Could you give the readers some tips on cosplaying Otoya Ittoki?

Hayato :-
Pleeeease pay more attention to the wig! To style a wig correctly makes soooooo much difference especially while cosplaying Otoya. His haircut isn't really hard to copy! (If you need some styling tips feel free to ask me! :D)
But this is a tip in general. In my opinion a correctly styled wig is nearly half the cosplay.

5. How often do you cosplay? Is it something you do for conventions and events only?

Hayato :-
In general I cosplay mostly for conventions, events and shootings. But it also happens from time to time that I dress up as my friends favorite character for some special happenings (like Birthday or something) just for surprising them.

6. Which character do you love cosplaying the most?

Hayato :-
Uhhh that's really hard!
But I think.... it's Atobe Keigo from Prince of Tennis und Ittoki Otoya. They are both so different but I have absolutely no problems to portray them. (And especially to Atobe Keigo I have some deeper personal bonds)

7. How do you face your difficulties regarding cosplaying?

Hayato :-
I spam my twitter time with my whining! xD (I would love to say I'm just kidding, but that's the truth!)
But to solve the problems I talk with my friends to gather some tips or other opinions. If this doesn't help I browse trough some other cosplayer who did the same cosplay. (Yeah I do! I think everbody does more or less even if they don't admit it!)

8. Why do you cosplay? Everyone has a reason, what is yours?

Hayato :-
For fun. Srsly!
I usually cosplay the characters/series/pairings I ship at the moment and I think it's the best to cosplay it then. Also its the best when you could act as the character you love so much during a shooting and at least see the results.
I did a lot in the cosplay scene - I had my own showgroup for many years, I moderated conventions, participated at competitions, was jury for competitions.. I loved everything a lot but it's all nothing compared to feeling when you "act" as the character and see how positive others react on this.
At leats I was able to meet so many awesome people and got friends with them. I don't want to miss this anymore.

9. Any piece of advice for the cosplay virgins out there?

Hayato :-
Pay more attention to the wigs! *laughs*
No, srsly: Just have fund and just do what you want to do! Cosplay only the characters you want and when you want it to do.
Yeah, you're right: Its easier said than done and it's a hard competition out there especially as a newbie... But never ever forget why you started cosplay... Never forget the feeling you had when you made the decision for your first cosplay!

6. Which character do you love cosplaying the most?

Shua :-
Grell Sutcliff of course. Most people know me by this cosplay. It lets me try different types of stage-performance. It's like putting on Grell's costume and feeling excited, free and happy.

7. Where do you often go for your photoshoots? How do you choose the background for a photoshoot?

Shua :-
First of all I pick up a costume and watch carefully the scenery of the anime or doujinshi. Then I recollect places of our town suitable for the photo-shoot. It's easy to shoot outside because Russia is rich in forests. As for the interiors  studios and cafes of our town are always ready to help!

8. Do you see yourself cosplaying in 10 years?

Shua :-
I think age doesn't  matter in cosplay. One can always find something suitable. So I think it is quite possible!

9. How does cosplaying make you feel?

Shua :-
Cosplay-world is a part of my everyday world. It is  very important for me. I think cosplay comprises a lot of branches, such as crafting, filming, acting and sometimes singing. I need to share my ideas with anime-lovers, find another way of showing a character's nature. I like to feel excited before entering the stage, feel the audience's agreement.
